Responding to the very positive feedback from the recent survey, we are delighted to announce the kickoff of the F8 Yacht Club Speaker Series with two evenings of world class Figure 8 speakers described below. The first two dates will be Friday July 25 and Thursday July 31.
Informal Format: Drinks by signature will be available starting at 5:15. The 45-minute presentation will begin at 5:45 and will be followed afterwards by an informal fellowship period.

Nido Qubein, a world class speaker and widely acclaimed University President
Subject: The Future of Education in America.
After 33 years building and running several entrepreneurial enterprises, Nido Qubein agreed to return to his undergraduate alma mater High Point University which he transformed into an institution that was recently recognized as the Number One Best Run College in the United States (Princeton Review 2025). Wow! Under his leadership the campus expanded from 91 acres to 600, enrollment grew from 1400 to 6600, faculty increased from 100 to 550, and revenues from $38m to $500m. Additionally, he added 11 academic schools including Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Optometry, and Dental Medicine and constructed more than a hundred new buildings at a total investment of more than $2B. At this inaugural event of our new Speaker Series, he will share his enlightened observations about what lies ahead for educational institutions and offer valuable strategies to ensure the future is both promising and impactful.

David Congdon, grandson of the founder of Old Dominion Freight Lines
Subject: Old Dominion Freight Lines, an American success story
From a husband and wife driving one straight truck in 1934, Old Dominion Freight Lines has grown into a NASDAQ-100 company with over 23,000 employees and 256 terminals. Longtime Figure 8 resident Earl Congdon took over the nascent trucking company 75 years ago at the age of 19 following the untimely death of his father. David joined the company 54 years ago and subsequently succeeded his father as CEO. Together they have built the company into one of the most remarkable entrepreneurial success stories in the country.
